Older workers are a hot commodity in today’s labor shortage. This age group has work ethic. They possess an attribute that is hard to come by… They honor their word. For most people age 60+, their word is their honor and will conduct him/ herself to protect that virtue. For an employer, this means when an older American accepts a job, it is understood that they are making a commitment. An older person understands the workplace and the co-workers are counting on him/her to be reliable and hard working. David Moon, 90, is such a man. He enjoys working. He first applied to work at Cedar Point in 2015 at age 84. He wanted to work in the Horticulture Department. His experience as a farmer has made him an ideal applicant. Today, he is submitting his employment application, again this year, to work part-time at Cedar Point for the 2022 season. David said, “I look forward to going to work each day. They are just the nicest group of people. What makes it enjoyable is how everyone carries their Older Workers: Valuable Commodities for Successful Businesses own weight. In other words, there are no slackers.” If you are interested in working part-time, consider submitting your application. Other businesses who appreciate what older people bring to the workforce are advertising HELP WANTED on page 30. If you need help submitting an electronic application, Serving Our Seniors can be of assistance to you. Call us at 419-624-1856.
