Serving Our Seniors started offering Out of Town transportation to healthcare appointments in 2006. Erie County residents, age 60 or better, say it is a gift for those who can’t drive out of town. Most have been with us for 10-15 years. We used to have a team of over 32 volunteer drivers. Today, we have 15. Will you help us by volunteering one day per month to drive? Those who volunteer as a driver, use vehicles provided by Serving Our Seniors and take Erie County residents, ages 60+ to their medical, dental, eye, foot care and other essential healthcare appointments. The volunteer drivers transport independently functioning seniors to their appointments and drive them back home. Serving Our Seniors frequently hears from those who have used Out of Town Transportation service. They always express deep gratitude for the ride and the kindness of the drivers. These are volunteers who make a lasting impact on the lives of others. Will you help us by volunteering to drive one (1) day per month? You pick the day. You won’t be asked to drive more than you wish. No holidays and no weekends. Please consider helping us, today, so we can be here to help you and your peers, tomorrow. To learn more about how you can give the gift of a lift, call Brenda Henry (419-624-1856). We need you! Meet Breanna Gilliam. She is a social work student, studying at BGSU – Firelands College. She started working, part-time, for Serving Our Seniors in January 2022. Her title is, Digital Divide Trainer. In other words, she is here to close the knowledge gap for those who did not grow up with computers as part of everyday living. She is here to help Erie County residents, one-on-one, who are age 60 or better. She makes it fun to learn how to use your smart phone, i-pad/tablet or laptop computer. She will slowly, walk you through the steps. Maybe you just want to learn how to empty your voicemail from your smart phone or how to use Firelands Health System’s Patient Portal to read your test results. She can show you how to do one thing; or meet more often to show you how to do a variety of things.
