He said, “The current surge is starting to wane and the omicron variant has spread the virus very quickly. This has established immunity that we didn’t have before. However, if another variant develops in the upcoming fall / winter - all bets are off the table.” Moving forward, as people in the 60+ age group, Schade wants you to be in charge of your own health care. Every time you become sick, in later life, it erodes your capacity to defend yourself from another infection/illness. “Vaccine Preventable Diseases are called this for a reason. Be proactive when it comes to doing Covid Update and Lessons Learned By Sue Daugherty things that can prevent an illness.” By that, Schade means to stay informed, using fact-checked sources of information and be prepared should there be another outbreak of Covid or the flu. Although it appears we can get back to a normal lifestyle, there is still work that needs to be done should we have an epidemic or another pandemic. He asked, “How many of your magazine readers do not have anyone to care for them when they get sick? Those who don’t, it is time to establish some new social connections with others. I don’t want older people lying in bed and ‘hoping’ to get better.” Serving Our Seniors is inspired by Commissioner Schade’s statement, “How many of your magazine readers do not have anyone to care for them when they get sick?” If he described you, call Serving Our Seniors ( 419-624-1856 ). We would like to see if we can develop a remedy or such circumstances. 29
