One Man’s Desire To Help Others He Would Never Know By Sue Daugherty Tim O’Hara, was my cousin and lived in Silver Spring, Maryland. Tim was sensitive man, generous, very caring and humble. On more than one occasion, he would send a donation to Serving Our Seniors and ask us to use the money to pay for a holiday dinner party for older adults who had little to look forward to over the holidays. He wished to remain anonymous. The last year of his life wasn’t easy on Tim. As his health failed in March 2019, he lost his ability to drive. In December 2019 he purchased a wheelchair accessible, mini-van. His brother-in-law, Mike or sister, Maureen, would take him places in the van. Maureen believes he felt real freedom after he purchased the van. He was no longer confined to the skilled nursing facility where he resided. Thanks to supportive friends and family, he was able to go out frequently – two/three times per week -- to movies and restaurants. These were cherished moments, evident by the huge grin on his face when the nursing staff asked him about his outing. Tim told his sister, when he no longer needed the mini-van, he wanted to donate it to Serving Our Seniors. Sadly, Tim died a month later. Serving Our Seniors received his mini-van. Because our agency doesn’t have the means to drive this vehicle to help wheelchair dependent passengers, Serving Our Seniors donated it to the City of Sandusky. It will be operated by Sandusky Transit System for the purposes of helping Erie County residents, ages 60+, who need wheelchair accessible transportation. I am forever grateful for Tim’s donation. I am also very proud to say I am the cousin of a man who wanted his vehicle to help people he had never met. Tim also donated his body to science. Thank you, Tim, for leaving a part of your legacy in Erie County, Ohio. We are grateful. Rest in peace. 23
