Serving Our Seniors has been installing ramps for
Erie County residents, age 60+ since 1999. The Ramp
Program was started to help older adults maintain their
independence, despite their disability, by providing them
with a way to safely enter and exit their home.
When the Ramp Program frst started it was rare that
a client needed this equipment for more than a year.
When an Erie County senior citizen no longer needed
their ramp it was returned to Serving Our Seniors. A
few days later a new client would be in need of the
ramp we had just taken down. This allowed us to help
another person without having to purchase a completely
new ramp.
Today, there are 108 Serving Our Seniors’ ramps in
use throughout Erie County. The good news is that
more Erie County senior citizens are living longer
independently, in their home with their functional
limitations. The bad news is that our existing inventory of
reusable ramps is exhausted. Thanks to the
Mylander
Foundation
, however, Serving Our Seniors received a
grant for $5,000.00 to purchase more metal ramp parts.

Thank you
How long will this last? It depends. If a ramp that is
currently in use is no longer needed, it could allow us
to double or triple the number of ramp installations.
If no ramps are taken down, when the next one is
needed, this is our only source of obtaining new ramp
parts. $5000.00 could produce one or two new ramps,
depending on the size of the ramp.
Our sincere thanks to
George Mylander and the
Mylander Foundation Distribution Committee
. Their
generosity will leave a legacy…Helping many different
senior citizens for many, many, years in the future.
