made in 2012, Serving Our Seniors still
has 8 stove sensors to loan to interested Erie County
residents, age 60+, who are using an electric stove.
You have heard the old adage – “Use It Or Lose It”.
This applies to any skill or ability that you have –to
include cooking. Dr. Laura Carstenson, Director of The
Longevity Center at Sanford University made a profound
statement regarding the graying of America. She said,
“Our challenge is to see that people reach advanced age
physically ft, mentally sharp and fnancially secure”. It is
Serving Our Seniors’ challenge, too!
If you are reluctant to cook for fear of a mishap, you are
doing less. The less you do, the more likely you are to
lose those abilities that help you maintain your functional
independence. Serving Our Seniors wants to remove
the barriers that keep you from cooking, safely. A stove
sensor does just that!
This is how it works… If you are cooking and you
would leave your stove unattended for more than 5
minutes, the burners turn off automatically. When you
return to the stove, you can turn on the stove top and
resume cooking. The stove sensors are the property
of Serving Our Seniors and made available free of
charge thanks to a grant from the
Albert G. & Olive H.
Schlink Foundation
. You would pay for the professional
installation by Fresch Electric. If you cannot afford the
cost of installation (approximately $75.00), fnancial
assistance is available to those who qualify. For more
