Serving Our Seniors Magazine: Jan - March 2023

The Drive to Do Good For 20 years, Serving Our Seniors never had to turn away an Erie County resident in need of Out of Town Transportation to health care appointments. Today, that is no longer true. From April 2022 through November 21, 2022 Serving Our Seniors had to deny 50 ride requests from older Erie County residents who needed a ride to their health care appointments, located in a city outside of Erie County. One such person was Teresa, age 84, who has low vision. For her, driving out of town is impossible. Her children work and her friends do not drive out of town, either. She had an appointment to see a specialist in Cuyahoga Falls, in mid-October, which she had to cancel. The earliest she could get in was near the end of November. Thanks to volunteer driver, Wanda Dean, she was able to get to her health care appointment in November. You may need this service, yourself, as you age independently. Please help us to keep this valuable service alive and well. Donate one (1) day per month, to drive an independently functioning, Erie County resident, age 60+, to a healthcare appointment. YOU pick the day. No weekends and no holidays. Drive a Serving Our Seniors car. For more information, call Brenda at 419-624-1856. Join These Heros – No Kryptonite Required On November 16, 2022, the Volunteer Drivers for Serving Our Seniors got together for a little brunch and a “Meet & Greet.” As of this day, this program has 22 drivers. We need 20 more. This includes the recent addition of our six (6) newest volunteers. John Corso, Todd David, Ford Evans, Ian Fenberg, Doug Moore and Nicki Spriggs. They learned of our need and came to our rescue. Our thanks to our long standing HEROs who have been going above and beyond since March 2022. Pam Baur, Bob Daniels, Wanda Dean, Gary Hinton, Jeff Justi, Scott Krewson, Marsha Nored, Harold Schneider, Don Sharrah, Kevin Shea, Tom Surdyk, Dick Wallenberg, Bob Toney, Darlene Walk, Mary Warren and Ken Wood. We would also like to thank: Don Hall, who volunteers one (1) day per week calling all of the volunteer drivers to ask if they are interested in driving one of the requested trips received in the last 7 days. Don Miller, Jay O’Neill, Ron and Ginny Wilson make local deliveries to client homes, take our cars to the garage for service and drive the vehicles through the car wash.
