Keith Clayton, age 63, is a songwriter/vocalist. He grew up surrounded with family members and friends who were gifted, self-taught, musicians. Intrigued by song writing and how pop, jazz and R & B music made him and others feel, this inspired him to make songwriting his contribution to others. He had been trying to write for years, but due to discouraging opinions from people he looked up to, musically, he would stop. He would later go back and write, again, only to trash the songs that he wrote. Eventually he quit. While waiting in a lobby, he picked up a magazine and read an article, which provoked him to rethink being a songwriter/vocalist. “As I read, I was both inspired and irritated, at the same time. The article was about a blues musician who was experiencing artistic success at age 62,” he said. “I asked myself, ‘Why did I quit?’” Then he reflected on those who found their success during later life. For instance, Colonel Sanders, was 66 years old when he started KFC franchise. Grandma Moses, became serious about painting at Aging Artistically and Bringing Generations Together age 78. Keith decided he was going to pursue this passion -- with disregard for his age. This year, he is taking two bold steps as a songwriter/ vocalist. He is releasing two new original songs in July 2021 and he has set goal, with a self-imposed date of completion, to have an album before January 1, 2022. To listen to Keith’s original compositions and become inspired, yourself, he invites you to go to the website www.coo.com. Not growing up during the technological revolution has put “boomers,” like Keith, at a disadvantage. He would like to know how to use social media to develop his craft and an audience of followers/ fans. Serving Our Seniors would like to serve as an “intergenerational hub” for making connections to close this digital divide. Serving Our Seniors would like to match those who are age 60+, who lack the knowledge and skills necessary to use You Tube, Instagram, Tic Tok, etc…, with those who have those skills. If there are any readers who know of others who would enjoy sharing their social media knowledge so others can show thier artistic talents, please call Serving Our Seniors (419-624- 1856 or Mail@ServingOurSeniors.org ). Ask for Sue Daugherty. We want to bring generations together. 14
