Are you nearing the age of retirement? If you are receiving Serving Our Seniors Magazine and haven’t taken the time to seriously plan for retirement, it’s time that you should. Serving Our Seniors knows what most people don’t… Aging is complicated personal business. A common conception is that a million-dollar nest egg of investments is what is needed before one retires. Is that true? How would you know? Then there is the question of how should this nest egg be invested? Should it be in Stocks? Mutual funds? Annuities? ETFs? What’s the difference? On July 29, 2021 , Serving Our Seniors is holding a public forum, entitled, What You Ought to Know Before You Retire, 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., at the Erie County Office Building, (downtown) Sandusky. A forum is a dialogue between speakers and audience. The panel will consist of Carl McGookey, Financial Advisor, PN Financial Services, LLC; Eric Affording Retirement: What You Ought to Know BEFORE You Retire By Sue Daugherty, Director, Serving Our Seniors Kochendoerfer, Financial Advisor, Edward Jones; Liz Skrinak, CFP, CFF, True Alpha Wealth Management and Brandon Smith, Public Affairs Specialist, Social Security Administration. I will facilitate the discussion between audience and panel and interject to ensure the answers are easy to understand. This is not a sales pitch seminar. No audience information will be shared with the panel of speakers. It is an educational opportunity for you to begin learning what you ought to know before you retire. Proof of vaccination is required to attend. RSVP by calling 419-624-1856. Ask for Brenda’s voicemail. Or, e-mail Mail@ServingOurSeniors. org before July 22, 2021. Include your name, the name of this event and phone number. 30 or more registrations are required to justify the panelists’ time. You will be notified by telephone if the forum is cancelled. There is a lot of confusion about applying HIPAA rules in a Covid-19 environment. In hipaajournal.com , an article was published May 25, 2021, entitled, Is it a HIPAA Violation to Ask for Proof of Vaccine Status? There it explains, “The HIPAA Privacy limits uses and disclosures of individuals’ Personal Health Information (PHI) to those required for treatment, payment, or healthcare operations.” It goes on to say, “HIPAA only applies to certain organizations / businesses. Specifically, healthcare providers, health plans, healthcare clearinghouses and their business associates. Although a vaccination is considered (PHI), the HIPAA rule only applies to HIPAA-covered entities. Proof of Vaccination is Not a HIPAA Violation When Serving Our Seniors holds public forums, special events and when we welcome you into our office, we will ask for proof of vaccination. We are not prying into your personal health business. We are simply demonstrating that we care about the health and well-being of all who come to Serving Our Seniors to use our help.
