We Are Going to Miss You! By Sue Daugherty, Director Chris Ferguson, Quality Assurance Manager and Nancy Rodriguez, Senior Advocate Assistant retired from Serving Our Seniors on June 30, 2020. These two ladies were cut from the same cloth. Virtuous professional women who contributed to the work culture and the ethical conduct of the other advocates who worked with them. Chris had been with the agency since October 1, 1998. She started as a Senior Advocate Assistant and was later promoted to the Quality Assurance Manager. She has been my right hand. She was self- motivated and had a self-imposed high standard of job performance. It was Chris who saw to it that the those who needed our help were eligible for what they received and those who called with questions/problems/concerns, were truly helped – not pacified. She was an excellent manager and earned our support, respect and affection. Nancy joined Serving Our Seniors May 31, 2006. This was her second attempt at retirement. She had retired from her full time job and recognized she had way too much to offer to just sit home. Thank goodness for us, she saw a help wanted ad for a part-time Senior Advocate Assistant position and she applied. Nancy was hired. Later, she was offered a full-time Senior Advocate Assistant position. She was Chris’s right-hand, until she reduced her hours to part-time, January 1, 2018. Like Chris, Nancy won’t give anything but her personal best. She did what she said she was going to do, when she said she was going to do it. She cared about being an advocate and it showed. They both left big shoes to fill and all of the co-workers agree…. We are going to miss them! Thank you Chris and Nancy! Serving Our Seniors is Having a Casting Call A casting call is something that is part of a production process to select a certain type of actor/singer/model. Serving Our Seniors is having a casting call of its own – for its website! We want you to show up! It’s easy. All you have to do is e-mail your photo(s). We will consider the photos received and select the images we want to display on our website www.servingoursenior.org . Send the photo to Mail@ServingOurSeniors.org before August 15, 2020. To qualify the individual in the photo must be an Erie County resident, the photo must be no older than 5 years from today and the person in the photo is no younger than 60 years. We are in need of photos to represent every age group - 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 100+ years old. The location of the photo does not have to be taken in Erie County. We do want the photo to be a positive image of aging. Maybe you have a photo of yourself performing in community theater, water skiing, riding a horse or a roller coaster. For those who are a little more subdued, here are some other suggestions… A photo of you at the Grand Canyon (or other extraordinary location), helping a child/grandchild, holding a baby, kitten or puppy. If you’re artistic, send us a picture of you painting, sculpting or carving. Last, but not least, remember this… Old is Vogue! The older you are in the photo –THE BETTER! 24
