Meet Don Hall and Jay O’Neill. They aren’t letting Stay At Home Orders, Stay Safe Guidelines and social distancing get them down. In fact, they have upped their game (so- to-speak). They are helping Serving Our Seniors help other older adults, by running errands and delivering groceries to those age 60+, who want to stay home as much as possible, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Don, age 67, is a jovial personality with a knack for being helpful. For years, he has been volunteering his time as a driver for Serving Our Seniors Out of Town Transportation Program and scheduling volunteer drivers for their trips. That was BC (Before Covid-19). Now, Don is using his “down time” honing his skills at home as a baker, artist, craftsman. He also runs errands when Serving Our They Won’t Let Covid-19 Get Them Down By Sue Daugherty Seniors has a client in need. He said, “I’m just glad I can help. I enjoy it and it makes me feel good. I don’t want any credit. I just hope that I can be an inspiration for others to do what they can.” As for his baking, “I give most of what I bake away to my friends and my neighbors. They really like it.” Jay, age 73, was an avid swimmer, until Covid-19 closed his swimming facility. He was not about to let a pandemic cause him to be idle. He said, “We have given the house a really deep cleaning. Plus, I’ve been painting. I painted our bathroom, upstairs hallway and one bedroom. I’ve had some success with painting. I’m not much of a builder, though.” Jay is also using his “down time” to deliver OHGO food boxes to older adults, known by Serving Our Seniors; and run errands to help a Serving Our Seniors’ client who has such a need. I asked Jay, why he is doing this? He replied, “Woody Hayes always use to say, ‘You can’t pay back, you have to pay forward.’ That is what I try to do.” Anthony Pool, formerly the Senior Advocate, has been promoted to Quality Assurance Manager. Anna Moses, formerly a Senior Advocate Assistant and would fill the role of the Senior Advocate, in the absence of Anthony. Anna has been promoted to the position of Senior Advocate. Wendy Boyer, Senior Advocate Assistant, has been selected as the substitute Quality Assurance Manager. She will function in this role, when needed to act in the absence of Anthony Pool. Congratulations to all of you! They Have Been Promoted! 9
