The Denture Project:
A World of Difference
Imagine trying to chew food while your teeth moved
around in your mouth. Every once in a while, depending
on what you tried to eat, you would experience pain in
your gums. To cope, you resort to only eating soft food.
That’s how eating was for Burnell, a Sandusky resident,
age 62, who needed properly ftting dentures for the last
three years. He tried denture products like poly-grip and
it just wouldn’t keep the denture in place any more. Now
that he has dentures that actually ft him, “It’s a world of
difference as far as my eating is concerned.”
“Today, when I put in the dentures, they are in there on
their own. They stay in place – right where I put them.”
Burnell said isn’t self-conscious anymore about eating.
Prior to his new dentures he kept himself at home when
he ate. He described himself as a “home-eater.” “It’s
embarrassing to be out in public trying to eat something
when you can’t chew it right.” Today, he feels comfortable
eating outside of his home and he is no longer concerned
about being able to eat foods that use to be hard to chew.
This is the third year Serving Our Seniors has piloted the
Denture Project. Burnell was one of 10 others who was
helped in the last 12 months. We have helped at total of
46 Erie County residents, age 60+.
