The median age is 44.9 years old. When comparing the older adult population in 2010 to the older adult population in 2020 the number of people ages 60-85+ years increased by 17%. Over the next five years, by 2025, population projections show that 32% (22,800) of Erie County will be age 60 and older. The number of people age 80+ (referred to by gerontologists as the “old-old” age group) will increase by 5%, while the number of people age 60 – 69 years (the “young-old” age group) will decrease by 3%. Erie County is Growing Older In the last issue we reported that Chris Ferguson, Quality Assurance Manager and Nancy Rodriguez, Senior Advocate Assistant, retired. Anthony Pool was promoted to Quality Assurance Manager. Morgan Newell, was hired as our newest Senior Advocate Assistant. However, Morgan is not really “new” to Serving Our Seniors. After graduating from college with a degree in psychology Morgan worked for Serving Our Seniors, as a part-time Welcome Back Morgan Newell, Senior Advocate Assistant Senior Advocate Assistant. She left to accept a full- time position as a case worker for Firelands Behavioral Health and was later hired as a Children Services & Adult Protective Services Investigator for Huron County. Today, we are happy to announce that Morgan Newell is back with us, working as a full-time Senior Advocate Assistant. While she was away, she gained valuable knowledge and experience, which is making us better at advocating for Erie County residents, ages 60+.
