Caring for your parent is an emotional time. When you are in the midst of it, figuring out how to navigate the maze of social services can be daunting. Ask retired Perkins Police Chief, Robb Parthemore. “At the time, I knew Serving Our Seniors was there, but I really didn’t know what you offered,” Robb said. That was until he called Serving Our Seniors in 2018. “Being responsible for an older parent is a lot of work. Every situation is different, so I realize you can’t just pick up a pamphlet and follow the steps. Plus, my Mom was very hard of hearing, which made the situation more complicated. Having someone, like Anthony Pool, a Senior Advocate, lightened my load. He was able to give me the roadmap and he would send me e-mails and reminders to coach me along,” said Robb. Someone To Call When You Need Help Robb’s mother passed away April 30, 2019. As a responsible party for his mother, his advice to adult children of older parents is this, “Find out, now, where your parents keep all of their important papers. I gathered the information and put it in a binder, so I had everything in one place. Having someone like Anthony, who knows the field of aging and how to navigate it, is so helpful.” Note: Anthony Pool was promoted to Quality Assurance Manager in June 2020. His Senior Advocate position has been filled by co-worker, Anna Moses. Serving Our Seniors is primarily funded through the Senior Services Tax Levy. Every five (5) years this issue is brought before Erie County voters for approval. It will be on the November 2020 ballot as Issue #14 the Senior Services Tax Levy. The Senior Services Tax levy has not increased since 2005. This is a levy renewal, plus an additional tax of .25 mills. The cost to a home owner of a $100,000.00 home is $23.28 per year. They may be gone, but they are not forgotten. When family and friends leave this world the void can feel enormous. Regardless of how long they have been gone, there is a desire to keep their spirit alive. Serving Our Seniors is honored to receive memorial contributions (May 29, 2020 – September 2, 2020) to commemorate: Robert Grathwol William Smith Jim Corso Robert (Bob) Jones Eugene Schwerer Georgi Dimitrov May we never forget the people they were, the lives they lived and the difference they made. The memorial gifts will be used by Serving Our Seniors to help older adults to maintain their health and functional independence as they grow older in Erie County. It is with deep appreciation that we accept these memorial gifts. Thank you.
