Martha Quinn, now retired from professional dancing
says, “Never miss a chance to dance”. She wants to
get more people moving – while seated in a chair!
She is starting a “chair-dancing” class one day per
week, from October 21 – December 27, to beneft
those age 60 or better.
This form of exercise is the perfect combination for
aging well. It is physical activity combined with social
interaction; and ideal for men and women, alike.
Especially for those who say “I’m too old” and/or
“I can’t dance”.
Chair-dancing is dancing while seated. All that is
required is a pair of taps. You can buy tap dancing
shoes, ($26.00/pair) or you can buy just the taps and
have a cobbler put them on an existing pair of shoes.
Martha, who has successfully recovered from knee
replacements, said “You will be surprised at what a
good work out you can get seated in a chair. When
you are done, you’ll feel good”! The frst class will
be an introductory meeting on October 21, 2013. The
chair dancing course is 10 weeks from 2pm – 3pm
and will take place at the Erie County Senior Center,
620 E. Water Street – Sandusky. The cost for the
10 week course is $10.00 per person.
Serving Our Seniors will reimburse each
chair-dancing student their $10.00, if they have
near perfect attendance and participate in a “grand
fnale” - performing the dance routine(s) in front of
a small audience (bring your friends & family!) on
December 27, 2013 at the Erie County Senior Center
at 12:00 pm.
