Perkins Avenue Taking The “Edge Off” Advice For Managing Feelings Of Worry And Irritability By Sue Daugherty On January 23, 2023 Dr. Linda Tremp Waters, PhD, answered questions from the audience at Serving Our Seniors public forum, That’s Not Normal Aging: Why I Feel Irritable and On Edge. Dr. Linda was a rock star! If you missed it, contact our office (419-624-1856 or Mail@ ServingOurSeniors.org ) and let us know if you would like us to invite her back to discuss this topic, again. If we can generate an audience of 30 or more, Serving Our Seniors will arrange for round 2 of That’s Not Normal Aging: Why I Feel Irritable and On Edge. One tip she shared to prevent feeling “on edge” was establish a regular daily routine, if you do not have one. The routine should be filled with purposeful and enjoyable activity. This truly contributes to a healthy body and mind. Dale Hartlaub adopted a new routine in retirement. He colors! It is part of his daily routine. He will sit in his reclining chair, with his lap desk, and forget his worries Linda Eyerman: Retired Teacher Turned Author Linda Eyerman, 72, of Vermilion, decided to become an author when Covid-19 put her on lock-down. It was a way to develop a new hobby with all of the time she had on her hands. She wrote her first book, Six Widows Mansion, and went to work to find a publisher. She found out, “No one wants to talk to a new author. I tried to talk to publishers, agents and editors. They will take your money to print up whatever you write up, but they will do nothing to try to sell it.” Six Widows Mansion was written to appeal to retirees. It is about six widows: a former detective, an accountant, a musician, an artist, a restaurateur, and a nursery owner. Together, they buy an old mansion and refurbish it on their own. Each woman has specific skills that are helpful, but none of them have all of the skills. The story is about how they make this house their own; and how six ordinary people, age 60+, who didn’t want to live alone created an arrangement where they could be together. She also wrote the books, The Boy Next Door and Log Cabin in the Woods. All three books are available on Amazon as an electronic book. Hard copies are not available. For more information, contact Linda at Lindaeyerman311@gmail.com while he colors. He said, “It’s relaxing and it’s enjoyable.” When his grandchildren visit he will include them and they all color together. 16
