Serving Our Seniors Magazine: January - March 2024

As our bodies change from infancy to adulthood, we don’t assign much meaning to it. They seem like transitions – nothing more. In our 60’s, however, wrinkles, cataracts, flabby muscles, age spots, etc… have more relevance. We quietly second guess the meaning of an ache or a pain, feeling tired or forgetting where we laid our keys. There is part of our being, which is fearful of what we might find out if we talk about the changes noticed in later life. Not knowing what is really going on with our body can be more emotionally taxing than actually confronting our fears and getting an answer. On November 11, 2023, Serving Our Seniors opened its office to host individual, private, virtual Successful Aging Visits with Dr. Anmolsingh, geriatrician, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The “Successful Agers” pictured here, took advantage of this service and obtained a baseline of their health at their age. Dr. Anmolsingh will continue this service, virtually, the second Saturday of each month, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Serving Our Seniors office. Serving Our Seniors is a geriatric social service agency, which advocates for those age 60+, living in Erie County. The agency believes consultative geriatric medicine needs to become standard practice for rendering primary care to older adults. This type of expertise gives older patients a baseline for measuring changes in health and maintaining an independent lifestyle. Together, primary care and a consultative geriatrician are able to help individuals maintain their health in later life and function independently, longer, into advanced age.
