Serving Our Seniors Magazine July - Sept 2023
A Perkins Township resident called us to say she received a letter, in the U.S. Postal Mail, from Barclays. Barclays is a British universal bank with headquarters in London. The letter was thanking her for choosing Barclays Online Banking. The letter told her the interest rate was 3.34% compounded daily. What is unusual is she does not do business with Barclays. So why would they send her this letter? ANSWER: It is an “Imposter” scam. She is victim of Identity theft. U.S. Postal Inspector, Ian Ortega, who spoke at Serving Our Seniors / ElderCollege’s Dinner Forum, in May 2023, is familiar with this letter. One of his relatives received it. His advice to others is go to www.IdentityTheft.gov. This is the federal government’s one-stop resource for identity theft victims. The site provides checklists and sample letters to guide you through the recovery process. Serving Our Seniors’ Senior Advocate Assistants are here to help you make use of the checklists, sample letters and other steps in the recovery process. Call us 419-624-1856! On September 9, 2023 at Shoreline Park, 411 E. Shoreline Drive - Sandusky is the Erie Shores Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease. If you want a cure, too, join us, as we walk to raise money to find a cure. Check-in begins at 9:00 a.m. and the opening ceremony begins at 10:00 a.m.. Local resident, Heather Eckert, has been an active participant with the Alzheimer’s Association – NW Ohio Chapter and The Walk To End Alzheimer’s Disease. She is grateful for their work, not only to find a cure, but to help people living with Alzheimer’s disease and their families. “I am grateful for the Alzheimer’s Association. This disease is very prevalent in my family and I am helping my mom now, who is living with Alzheimer’s disease. It helps to know that I am not in this alone.” She wants people to know that the Alzheimer’s Association is a great place to turn to, to learn and get advice. People living with this disease or a related condition, need repetition, routine and structure. I knew to create a regular schedule, early in the disease process. This has given me the freedom to work around my mom’s limitations.” This is helping her mom to remain independent, in her home, longer; and is still doing well with Heather’s loving involvement. If you want a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease, please participate in this fund-raising event. For more info call Erica Parnisari, Alzheimer’s Association at 419-216-2973.
