Serving Our Seniors Magazine Oct - Dec 2024
Kathleen Sigsworth, 59; Tiina Ruffing, 58 ½; Dina Lukasko, 57 are our cover story. Kathleen and Dina are sisters. As Kathleen puts it, “Tiina is our soul sister.” The three ladies are on the cover because they are aging and we think they are “cool.” Together, they have an instrumental trio called “Last Call Trio”. Kathleen plays the upright bass and the bass guitar. She is the upperclassman in the trio, who is unashamed to say she will be 60 in January 2025. She is a resident of Milan. If the last name sounds familiar, yes, she is the wife of Erie County Sheriff, Paul Sigsworth. Kathleen is the office manager at RKS Power Solutions, a Generac automatic standby generator shop in Norwalk. Tiina plays the keyboard. She recently stepped away from her job as an elementary Library teacher whose students proudly would tell her their age in whole numbers and in fractions. She wants the readers to know that she is 58 ½ years old (humor keeps her young, she says.) Her parents are from Estonia, hence the spelling of her name with two i’s. “If it were spelled with one “i” it would be pronounced tin-a.” She lives and works in Norwalk. Dina Lukasko is the flutist and auxiliary percussionist in the trio. She has played since grade school and never really lost her love for playing flute. She has been a real estate agent for 30+ years serving Huron and Erie Counties. She and her husband Jay have four beautiful children, all residing within a couple hours of home. This trio started in 2012, when they decided to help then-candidate for Erie County Sheriff, Paul Sigsworth, and played their very first “gig” at a fundraiser/spaghetti dinner event for him. Following the fundraiser, people asked if they would play for other events. They realized there might be a niche for the type of music they play, so they continued to practice and perform. The Last Call Trio’s popularity has grown by word-of-mouth. “We are not entertainers,” they say. “We are background music. We play, knowing that people are listening, but they want to enjoy conversation, too. We are most comfortable playing background music and creating the ambience.” They play at wineries, retirement parties, private events, fund-raisers, weddings, anniversaries, etc… Kathleen loves to play the “old standards” from the big band, swing and rat pack eras, although their repertoire spans eight decades.
