The Erie County Senior Center, 620 E. Water Street, Sandusky, received grant funding, obtained by the Erie County Commissioners. The Commissioners applied for the Ohio Department on Aging “Healthy Aging Grant”. Under the direction of Robert Fitzgerald, Director of the Erie County Senior Center, part of the grant funds were to construct a fitness room. It has two flat screen TVs and is filled with new equipment. It has two treadmills, a recumbent bike, an elliptical machine and a rack of new dumbbells as low as 2 lb. up to 15 lb. There are also two, out-of-the-ordinary, pieces of exercise equipment. A vibration stand, designed to improve balance; and bicycle peddling equipment, for those who are wheelchair dependent. The fitness room is available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., free of charge! Check in at the front counter and sign a liability waiver. The equipment in the fitness room is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Advanced registration / appointments are not necessary. If the fitness room does not displace any senior citizens from using the equipment, adults under the age of 60 are welcome to use the fitness room, too.
