They are two different organizations, although we work collaboratively on the Rural Home Delivered Meal Program to help older adults at nutritional risk; and the Kelleys Island Luncheon Group. The Erie County Senior Center was established in 1976. It is IXQGHG E\ WKH 2OGHU $PHULFDQV $FW WKURXJK WKH $UHD 2I¿FH RQ Aging. The Erie County Seniors Center started the Meals on Wheels program, which delivers meals to the homes of older adults living within the City of Sandusky. Today its emphasis is providing nutrition, recreation, travel trips and socialization to support healthy aging. It also raises funds through local grants, donations and help from volunteers. Serving Our Seniors was founded in 1996 by a local group of Erie County senior citizen activists, who wanted “one place to call” if an older person had a question/problem/concern. We advocate for Erie County residents, ages 60+ and support their ability to maintain their health and maintain an independent lifestyle as they grow older. Serving Our Seniors is funded by local taxpayers, through the Erie County Senior Services Tax Levy, plus local grants, private donations and help from volunteers.
