Water Street, Sandusky, is proud to announce it has added a salad bar on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. as part of its services. The Mylander Foundation awarded a grant to purchase the salad bar. All ages are welcome. If you work or play in the downtown area stop in. Those age 60 or better eat for $6.00, otherwise, there is an $8.00 salad bar charge. BUILD YOUR SOCIAL CAPITAL (FRIENDSHIPS) Drexel University of Public Health studied older people and their health in later life. Those aged 65+, who had more trusted social relationships were also more mobile. They also had people in their lives, who were helpful. Another study showed that cognitive deterioration was 70% less in people with frequent social contact. In the end, retirees who work at developing and maintaining a large social circle of friends are healthier longer. If you want to grow your circle of supportive friendships, but don’t know where to begin, start at the Erie County Senior Center. Lunch is served on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:30am-12:15pm; Lunches are open to everyone not just Seniors. (Suggested donation of $3.50 for those age 60+. $5.00 for those under 60.) Salad bar is on Tuesdays and Thursdays. ($6.00 for those age 60+) Weekly activities include: Ceramics; Bingo, Duplicate Bridge, Tai Chi, Bible Study, Chair Exercise, Dartball, The Senior Men’s Fellowship Club, Postcard Club, free blood pressure checks. Volunteering to deliver Meals on Wheels is also great way to meet people who desire to make their community a better place to live. Consider starting a club or a hobby group. The Senior Center may be able to serve as your meeting location free of charge. You will enjoy their new interior with new carpet, VCT tile and new dining room furniture.
