Deb Rogers, is a retired nurse. She started working part-time at Serving Our Seniors in 2019. She provides all of the Advocates with clerical support. Her dedication to help all of us do our work is undeniable. She is a great role model for reinventing yourself in retirement. Although she never worked in a clerical role before she was open to learning. In return, she has beefed up her computer skills. A useful benefit by today’s standards. Chris Rankin, recently retired as a police officer from the Sandusky Police Department. He said he didn’t want a part-time job and he liked being retired. I twisted his arm and he agreed to work for us “as needed.” Chris helps all of the Advocates check public records on individuals, who older adults are considering to hire. By checking backgrounds, we can help prevent financial elder abuse/fraud. One thing remains the same… Our drive to empower older people while working in an honest and ethical manner. These are the ethics which guide how we do our work. It may surprise you to learn that the final group of the Baby-boomers will turn age 65 in 2029. Under the leadership of our current Board President, Sparky Weilnau, Serving Our Seniors is planning for the next 25 years. Although we welcome the day when the complexities of later life are permanently resolved, that triumph may not occur by 2046. Until then… Serving Our Seniors will work so that Erie County residents, ages 60+ will have someone to call when they need help to maintain their health and functional independence. In celebrating our silver anniversary, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all of the Erie County Commissioners (past and present), the members of Serving Our Seniors’ Board of Trustees (past and present) the hundreds of donors and volunteers (past and present) and to my co-workers (past and present). It is all of YOU, in your own way, who made Serving Our Seniors what it is, today. YOU are why there have enjoyed 25 successful years of helping Erie County age better. THANK YOU! Retired Police Officer Chris Rankin CORRECTION. In the July – Sept. 2021 issue of Serving Our Seniors Magazine we introduced Chris Rankin. The article was incorrectly titled, “Retired Police Sergeant.” The correct title is “Retired Police Officer.” Nonetheless, if you are thinking about hiring someone to work at your home – before you hire him/her – give Serving Our Seniors a call ( 419-624-1856 ). Chris has the skills to research public records. Serving Our Seniors can tell you if the person you are considering to hire has a history with law enforcement and/or the court system based on available public records. 16
