VOLUNTEER
Please call 419-624-1856 to learn more about volunteer opportunities at Serving Our Seniors, including:
Out-Of-Town Volunteer Drivers for Health Care Appointments
Out of Town Transportation drivers take clients to and from healthcare appointments outside of Erie County. Serving Our Seniors provides the vehicle. Drivers must pass an Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles check, a criminal background check, dug test, and a geriatric driving assessment. Serving Our Seniors covers these costs for those applying to be a volunteer driver.
Drivers are asked to volunteer one day a month. Rides are scheduled in advance. The driver will be called to confirm his/her availability for volunteering, no later than the Friday of the week before the appointment.
Guilt-free guarantee: Volunteers can say “no thanks” to driving on any day that is not convenient, or to any location (such as a big city) they prefer not to travel. We understand and will call you another time!
Meals On Wheels Drivers
Volunteers deliver hot meals to homebound residents aged 60+ in Erie County, five days a week. Please call the Erie County Senior Center for more information at 419-626-2560.
Volunteer Drivers for Vehicle Maintenance
Volunteers drive Serving Our Seniors’ vehicles for routine maintenance in Sandusky and also take the vehicles to the car wash twice per month.
Special Event Volunteers
Serving Our Seniors Special Events Committees have one thing in common: they like to have fun!
The Annual Spring Variety Show. We are looking for volunteers for the Spring Show, which will be held in April or May of 2025. This is a show that features musical performers and skits, with raffles and an Ice Cream Social afterwards. The entertaining event is coordinated by and performed by talented volunteers who know how to have FUN! Those interested in helping to produce the 2025 Spring Variety Show should call Sue Daugherty, Director 419-624-1856 by January 2025. Volunteers are needed to collect tickets, sell raffles and work at the Ice Cream Social, the day of the show, and perform.
For more than 20 years, volunteers have planned the entertainment for the Senior Fest at the Erie County Fair in August. Volunteers meet January – July to plan for an entertaining celebration of what it REALLY means to be “older”. It’s a blast! Free admission to Senior Fest for all Erie County seniors, aged 60+. To join this lively bunch that plan and produce Senior Fest 2024, call Sue Daugherty at 419-624-1856.
Medicare Counselors
The Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program [OSHIIP] provides free health insurance information and services available with Medicare. OSHIIP Medicare Counselors are trained and certified to help clients understand how Medicare insurance works and what various options will cost. Volunteers work a flexible schedule, no less than 2 hours per week. Counseling appointments and other OSHIIP programs are held in the Serving Our Seniors office.
