If you are between 60 and 65, you would be wise not to wait any longer to
begin understanding what Medicare does and does not cover. If you are age
65 or older, make the time,
now
, to learn about your Medicare options, how
coverage works and what it costs.
If you are a low income senior citizen, did you know that you can get
Medicare coverage at low cost or no cost? But you have to apply for it,
before you can receive it.
Medicare Advantage Plans are more affordable as long as you are well and
stay well. However, they are not as cost-effective as traditional Medicare
with a Medicare supplemental insurance policy, if should you have an acute
health event.
There will be two opportunities to learn more about Medicare. On
September 15, 2015
there will be a
“Welcome to Medicare”
webinar at
6:00 pm at Serving Our Seniors office. Seating is limited to 13.
On
Saturday, September 26, 2015
, there will be a public forum entitled
“Making Sense Out of Medicare”
, 9:00 am – 11:00 am, at the Mylander
Conference Center, Firelands Regional Medical Center, 1111 Hayes Ave
– Sandusky. The forum will consist of panelists Rob Moore, VP Legal &
General Counsel, Jane Arnold, VP of Revenue Cycle Management with,
members of the Patient Access, Medical Records, Patient Accounting,
Financial Counseling departments from Firelands Regional Medical Center
and OSHIIP (Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program) Medicare
Counselors. Sue Daugherty, Director of Serving Our Seniors will facilitate the
dialogue between the audience and the panel.
Firelands Regional Medical Center is willing to take questions prior to the
forum to address during the forum. If you have general questions you may
email them to Jane Arnold and
, or mail them to
Firelands Regional Medical Center, Attention: Jane Arnold, Revenue Cycle,

RSVPs are required. Email to
or call 1-800-564-

fail to attract 50 or more people to the forum, Serving Our Seniors will notify

Make Sense Out of Medicare
Question:
Will Medicare pay for my
home health care?
Answer:
Medicare will pay for home
health care services, but only under
specific circumstances. You must meet
all four of these criteria, then Medicare
should pay your care:
1) You are homebound, meaning
you need the help of another
person or equipment to leave
your home.
2) You require intermittent skilled
nursing care or skilled therapy
services.
3) Your physician has signed a
certification stating that you are
homebound and need intermittent
skilled care.
4)
And
, your services are provided
by a Medicare –certified home
health agency (HHA).

Original Medicare pays the full cost of
home health care. Medicare Advantage
plans must follow the same rules as
Medicare for providing care, but the
plans may have different costs and
restrictions. Contact your plan with
questions.
