Every five years the residents of Erie County will see an
issue on the ballot called the Senior Services Tax Levy.
Erie County Commissioners have an agreement with
Serving Our Seniors to put the senior services tax levy to
work helping Erie County residents, ages 60+.
It is the senior services tax levy that funds Serving Our
Seniors and its programs:
Problem Solving Service

The Senior Advocate Program
– advocating for and
coordinating services to support the rights of older adults
to maintain their independence;
Rural Luncheon Groups
in Florence Township and on Kelleys Island; “
How to
Be Your Own Health Care Advocate”
- an educational
course that empowers people age 60+ with what they
ought to know about the Medicare and health care
system.

Get Its Funding?
Thanks to recent grant funding, Serving Our Seniors is also
providing financial assistance for
general dental care
(up
to $850.00/person) and funding for application fees for free
hearing aids

Thanks to two large donations from private individuals
Serving Our Seniors has a
“Piggy Bank Fund”
, which is
used to address important matters potentially jeopardizing
an older adult’s independence.
Serving Our Seniors is a not-for-profit, charitable
organization that is recognized by the IRS as being a 501
(c) (3) tax exempt organization. This allows us to apply
for grants, hold fund-raising events and accept donations,
which can be claimed as a tax deduction to the extent
allowed by law. (It is the donor’s responsibility to consult
with their tax preparer to make that determination.)
