This is the five year anniversary of Serving Our Seniors
Magazine! Back then it was a 16 page publication and
Sandusky residents, Jim & Marva Jackson graced our
first cover. Thanks to Mark Advertising, who designs
and prints this beautiful, full color, magazine, it now
has 24 to 28 pages per issue. None of this, however,
would be possible it if wasn’t for our supportive
advertisers. It is our advertisers who pay for the
magazine to be printed and delivered to your home – at no cost to you!
We are truly thankful that they choose to advertise with us!
I hope that you are inspired by our cover story. David Moon is an amazing
man who defies every myth and negative stereotype associated with aging.
He is 85 years old and living proof that later life is what you make it.
In this issue you will read about schools who want retirees to take
advantage of what they have to offer – just for the fun of it. You will also read about what schools and
community leaders are doing to make kindness a way of life in Erie County.
Check out our calendar of events on page 5. It is full of help to benefit people experiencing changes in
their memory and help for those with impaired vision. You will also see multiple discussions that we hope
will provoke you to take care of your personal business – “Understanding Your Very Important Papers”;
and “Understanding Medicaid Planning”. It is information you need to know for successful aging.

Paul Newman founded the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp for
children stricken with cancer, AIDS, and blood diseases. One
afternoon, he and his wife, Joanne Woodward, stopped by to
have lunch with the kids.
A counselor at a nearby table, suspecting the young patients
wouldn’t know Newman was a famous movie star, explained,
“That’s the man who made this camp possible. Maybe you’ve
seen his picture on his salad dressing bottle?”
Blank stares.
“Well, you’ve probably seen his face on his lemonade carton.”
An eight-year-old girl perked up. “How long was he missing?”
