Bob McCormick Has a Life of
Stories & Historical Relics
Bob McCormick, 77 years old, retired as a Lieutenant
from the Sandusky Fire Department. His starting wage
was $1.59/hour. He is an interesting man. Because of his
family and neighborly relationships he has a number of
unusual stories and historical relics.
“The horn came from Whitey Ryman, a city electrician. As
a kid, I remember there was this witch on a broom, in the
Cedar Point arcade. This horn was hers.” he said.
“My cousin, John O’Rielly, died in a trailer fire on January
1, 2010. I took that trailer apart and found a picture of
my grandfather from the 1800’s and I found John Boyle
O’Rielly’s sea bag. John B. was in the Pacific theater
during WWII. He listed the battles he fought on his bag”.
Mrs. Deist (her dad started Flynn, Py & Kruse) hired Bob
to be her handyman. Overtime they became the best of
friends. She gave Bob souvenir silver spoons from her
travels, multiple postcards from the early 1900’s and a
sterling silver clutch purse (estimated to be 100+
years old).
As a child Bob got to know Mrs. Alfred Hendrickson,
because his mother would send him over to cut her
grass, shovel her snow, and deliver her newspaper. She
remembered how much Bob admired her garage. As her
health started to fail she wanted Bob to buy her home. In
1971 he did just that. Bob and his wife, Lynn, still live in
that home today.
