If you are not as steady on your feet as you
used to be or if you are losing the “pep in your
step”, your age is not the problem. Stumbling
or falling, in later life, is caused by one or more
reasons. None of those reasons are your age.
Those who assume that falling is normal won’t
seek treatment for this problem, but they
should. Instead, they resort to using a cane
or a walker. What’s needed is a thorough
assessment to figure out what is causing the
poor balance/falling.
Falling in later life has many
possible, treatable, causes,
i.e., medication or medication
interactions; a foot deformity;
reduced leg strength, an
inner ear disorder, or
an underlying medical
condition. The physician never discovers the
medical problem, because the patient never
tells the doctor.
The panelists are: Beth Cutler, Pharmacist,
Rite Aid; Kari Perin, Physical Therapist,
Providence Care Centers; Dr. Eugene Kubitz,
Podiatrist, NOMS; Matthew Johnston, D.O.;
and Kimberly Peacock, D.O. Each will explain
various conditions that can be treated and
lower body function restored for reduced risk of
falling as you age.
An audience of 25 or more is required to justify
the time of the panelists. RSVP by January 16,
2017 at 12:00 pm, by calling 419-624-1856 (or
e-mail
. Leave
your name, phone number and the name of
this event. If we fail to attract 25, the forum will
be cancelled and you will be notified.
