He was inspired by his
granddaughter, Taliyah
Farris, to join our healthy
living challenge. Taliyah has
been asking her grandfather
to “please stop smoking!”
One day she came home
from school and said to
him, “I learned something in
school that was for you.” She
gave him a flyer that talked about “stop smoking”.
He said, “Then I walk into Serving Our Seniors office
and hear about this healthy living thing… and if I
agree to it, there will be a story written about me
giving up smoking. That’s when I knew this was it. I
had to do this!”
Willie didn’t wait for January 1, 2017 to start. He
started to choose healthy living on November 1,
2016 and quit smoking “cold turkey”. No patch, no
nicorette gum. Just pure conviction.
“If you want to do this, you can do it. If you fall off,
you just get right back up and start again. Knock on
wood. I haven’t smoked since. Praise God,” he said.
Unhealthy habit he is giving up in 2017:
Smoking
cigarettes and cigars.
Healthy habit he is developing in 2017
: Remain a
non-smoker for life.

County Chooses Healthy
Living”
, along with Sandi
Foster. “I am well aware of
the high cost of poor health
in later life. Being in my normal weight range is not
enough. My muscles are turning to mush. As I age,
the best thing I can do for myself is take much better
care of my body than I have been doing”.
“My resolution for 2017 is improve my physical
strength and endurance and eat to guard against
diabetes and heart disease. This will be easier said
than done,” she said. Although she is vegetarian,
Sue is a sugar junkie who never exercises. She
plans to become fit enough to compete in Serving
Our Seniors first
“Shades of Gray 5K Walk/Run”
on August 19, 2017 downtown Sandusky. (See page
