Paul Kamann, 69, is a retired
mental health counselor and an
artist. He started out in oil painting
and linoleum block flat carving. He
prefers working with art that he can
put his hands around. Three years
ago he started his own form of art.
“One day I was looking
at these glass dishes and
thought it would be cool if
I could put them together
and make something out
of them. So, I just decided
to try,” he said.
What he enjoys about this form of art is how it inspires him to be
creative and it is also challenging.
This glass work involves some welding to make the stems.
“Before this, I had never welded. I learned by taking welding
classes at Sandusky Career Center.” With this new skill he makes
some art pieces over 6 feet tall.
Others appreciate his work, too. He sells his glass yard art. “I had
one lady call me up and thank me for making them. She told me
she thinks they are just beautiful.”
Paul is always on the lookout for old glass dishes. If you have old
dishes collecting dust, don’t throw them away. Instead, let Paul
take your trash and turn it into a lasting treasure that others will
enjoy.
