Project Lifesaver:
Five Lions Clubs Make it Happen for Erie County
Project Lifesaver offers a special wristband or ankle
bracelet that helps local law enforcement find and
rescue missing individuals who are living with a
cognitive impairment. (Cognitive means the ability to
think, reason, judge, discern and/or remember.) This
program exists thanks to the five Erie County Lions
Clubs and their desire to work together for this cause.
From an aging perspective this is an important service.
11% of the 65+ population have Alzheimer’s disease or
a related condition. Not all people living with a cognitive
impairment wander away or get lost; when it does
happen, however, it is frightening and often fatal.
In Erie County, Lions Clubs take care of interviewing
their own prospective clients in their own community.
Castalia Lions Club is responsible for the Castalia/
Bayview/Margaretta Twp and Groton Twp area; Huron
Lions Club is responsible for the Huron/Huron Twp
area; Milan Lions Club is responsible for the Milan/
Milan Twp and Oxford Twp area; Sandusky Lions
Club is responsible for Sandusky/Perkins area; and
Vermilion Lions Club is responsible for the Vermilion/
Vermilion Twp area.
The cost to the family for Project Lifesaver is $10.00
per month. Erie County Lions Foundation has been
established to support the $10.00/month fee for families
who cannot afford to pay; and to replace equipment or
purchase more wristbands.
